matchgameSilicon 2009 is now behind us, and it was a smashing success!  Smashwolf Productions provided sound, lighting, and video services for the main programming areas as well as several break-out rooms.   Silicon is one of Silicon Valley's longest-running science fiction conventions.   At Silicon 2009, we produced a programming stage by night, and a dance floor by night, complete with moving effects lights, and a 24,000 watt digital audio system that rivals that of many premire San Francisco night clubs!  We could not have done it without the help of a very dedicated, and talented crew.  Here are some picture s of our crew in action!

crw_4855-1024Sound:  We employed a digital PA system consisting of JBL 4 JBL SRX 728 subwoofers, 4 JBL SRX738 3-way mains, Four Crown Itech 6000 digital power amplifiers.  The PA was driven by a  Yamaha O3D digital mixing console, sending AES/EBU digital to the amplifiers.  Four JBL SRX 712M monitors were driven with a pair of Crown K2 amplifiers, each channel on an AUX send from the Yamaha O3D.   Music audio came from the DJ rig, and a VeeJay Rig.  We used 6 channels of Shure U4 UA band wireless microphones with beltpacks, headsets, and handhelt transmitters.

crw_4859Lights: Lighting was provided utilizing a combination of conventional lighting, and intelligent lighting.  The conventional lighting was driven by an Elation Scene Setter 24 channel DMX desk controlling 5 trees hosting  4 dimmer channels each.  The 3 trees facing the stage were focused using ETC Source Four 26 and 36 degree insturments, and were color corrected to approximately 5600 degrees kelvin.  4 ETC PARNEL insturments were color gelled specials on the dance floor trees.

Intelligent lighting was handled by the ChamSys MagiQ software running on a touch screen laptop, and an EntTec USB DMX Pro single universe USB interface.  The MagiQ system controlled four Mojo scanning lights, and two Martin MAC 250 moving head lights.

Video: crw_4853 Video projection was achieved using a Barco 6300 LCD projector with a 2.6-4:1 zoom lens, and a  DaLite FastFolx 9x12 screen positioned up-stage.  Video was sourced both from laptops, and our Veejay box.  The VeeJay box has the capability to mix between up to four video sources.  It hosues a Numark dual DVD karaoke player, and it's own preview and program monitors.  It is ideal for small portable Karaoke installations due to it's compact configuration.  It is completely self contained, and even has an amplifier to drive a pair of speakers.

crw_4858-1024We also provided small Sanyo projectors, and 6x8 fastfold screens to break-out rooms for laptop hook-ups and powerpoint presentations.
